Letter from the MASFSA President

Here we are at the completion of another successful MASFSA conference for 2017. Thank you to all our participants who attended this year, and for those of you who are taking the time to complete a survey of your thoughts on the sessions and conference as a whole. Your feedback is invaluable.

MASFSA was formed to make professional development available to schools and their staff around the state at an affordable rate. Many schools limit the amount of travel for staff because of small institutional budgets, we do our best to rotate the conference locations around the state each year to hopefully give everyone a better opportunity to attend. Our 2018 May conference will be here before we know it. Please save the date, May 6 through May 8, 2018 at the Amway Grand Hotel in Grand Rapids, MI.  We will have more info coming your way soon on the agenda, sessions, and registration. The Board, along with the committees: Conference, Professional Development, and Membership, are already hard at work to bring you another great learning experience.  We are planning sessions that will help you in your day to day operations, and the conference will give you the opportunity to meet fellow student financial services professionals. The opportunity to network with colleagues across the state is my number one favorite thing about the conference. We have made an attempt to easily identify each attendee school’s information system to help you connect, but you would also be amazed at the things you learn from sharing your thoughts and discovering best business practices for issues that you deal with on a day to day basis.

The MASFSA list serve enables members to ask questions to other schools on processes, issues or procedural questions, and the opportunity is just an email away with your MASFSA membership.

Serving on the MASFSA Board has been a great opportunity to work with so many wonderful individuals that are dedicated to bringing you not only a great conference, but updates to legislation and industry changes throughout the year.  The whole purpose of the group is to serve you, but it also takes people to make it all happen, so please consider serving on a committee or the board in the near future.  We are all here to support each other through MASFSA membership and leadership in the association in addition to the great support from our vendors which have allowed MASFSA to continue to grow and offer important connections and information for the membership.
