The MASFSA Board of Directors held an emergency meeting to discuss the current health crisis (Coronavirus – COVID 19). Our primary concern is the health and safety of our members. It is out of that concern that I announce that our upcoming MASFSA conference, scheduled May 17-19, 2020, will be postponed until a later date to be determined.

This was not an easy decision or one that was made lightly. It is unprecedented with our association, but we are living in an unprecedented time with unprecedented risks. The Board of Directors believe that this is the right action for our members. Please keep in mind that this is a fluid situation and rapidly changing.

For those who have hotel reservations with The Little River Casino & Resort, we are working with the hotel; however, they are currently closed until March 31. Please be patient, and as soon as we have an update on that, I will share that with you.

In a time of difficult choices for ourselves, our families, our teams, and our students, we are faced with few good options. The MASFSA Board of Directors thanks you for your continued support of our association and your understanding of this decision. I encourage you all to stay personally informed about COVID-19.

Again, let me emphasize that more details will follow as information is available. But, if you have specific questions or concerns about the conference postponement currently, please direct them to our conference committee chair:

Letter from the MASFSA President

September 30, 2019

Dear Colleagues:

Fall is upon us and I take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of MASFSA.

As your President, our organization exists to provide our members with access to affordable training at our annual meeting, regulatory updates and to share and promote best practices. We also encourage all members to utilize our listserv to engage with our colleagues when you need advice or want to share information which may be helpful to others.

Earlier this year, we launched our mobile conference app which allowed our Annual Meeting attendees to download presentations and provide feedback in real-time. We thank the technology committee, led by Scott Idle, for their efforts in implementing this new technology for MASFSA.

Here are our goals for the upcoming year:

  • Provide another affordable, high-quality training conference for you and your staff May 17-19, 2020 at the Little River Resort in Manistee.
  • Update the MASFSA website to give it a fresh look and to improve the content available to our members.
  • Engage our membership to encourage others to serve on our board or our committees.
  • Continue to grow our membership by reaching out to more colleagues so they are aware of the high-quality, professional support MASFSA offers.

Our Conference Committee is busy developing a school-focused agenda with a variety of topics based on your feedback given at last year's conference. We're excited to announce our Keynote Speaker, Elizabeth McCormick, who is a former US Army Black Hawk Helicopter Pilot. She is sure to bring motivation, energy and empowerment to our conference.

I am honored to serve as your 2019-2020 President. In fact, it's almost as fun as spending time with my three grandchildren but in a different way. I get to interact with our talented and dedicated board members and continue building relationships with our school colleagues and supportive vendor community. I encourage you to reach out to me or any board member to share your ideas or questions as to how we can make MASFSA a better partner for you
